One 14-year-old boy was found dead only a few days after being wrongly accused of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Start

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had not reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing heard from school personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The court learned his parents said they never receive that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was released while investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a personal act it is impossible to determine his intent."
